IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (994) Otthild / HIP 45688 event on 2023 Jan 12, 20:13 UT Visible from Japan, Russia, Europe Summary ------- On 2023 Jan 12 UT, the 24.2759032796639 km diameter asteroid (994) Otthild will occult a 3.8 mag star in the constellation Lynx for observers along a path across Japan, Russia, Europe. In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 2.31 mag to 6.00 mag (the combined magnitude of the asteroid and the close companion star) for at most 2.110 seconds. This update is based on, astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by the IAU Minor Planet Center. This work has made use of data from the European Space Agency (ESA) mission Gaia (http://www.cosmos.esa.int/gaia), processed by the Gaia Data Processing and Analysis Consortium (DPAC, http://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/gaia/dpac/consortium).
