IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (1076) Viola / HIP 39990 event on 2021 Jan 05, 18:50 UT Visible from SE Asia, India, SW Asia Summary ------- On 2021 Jan 05 UT, the 23.9883254963186 km diameter asteroid (1076) Viola will occult a 6.3 mag star in the constellation Cancer for observers along a path across SE Asia, India, SW Asia. In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 8.43 mag to 14.73 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 3.5 seconds. This update is based on UNSO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Hugh Harris, astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by the IAU Minor Planet Center. This work has made use of data from the European Space Agency (ESA) mission Gaia (http://www.cosmos.esa.int/gaia), processed by the Gaia Data Processing and Analysis Consortium (DPAC, http://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/gaia/dpac/consortium).
